Elko, MN (September 21, 2013)  The two-day race event at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN ended up being a “three-day event” when the racing was all said and done.

The cars raced into the midnight hours after two red flags in the Big 8 Series event and many cautions in each of the other series.  The ARCA Midwest Tour race didn’t even get started until 11:00 p.m. and wrapped up around 12:30 a.m.  Although it was a late night, the race fans stuck through until the end.

Jonathan Eilen had the opportunity to race earlier in the evening in the Midwest Tour Truck Series, which was great for all the local fans to see. He had never been in a Midwest Tour Truck before, but he was excited for the opportunity. “My crew chief, Chad, had an extra truck and knew I wanted to try it out at some point in my career. It was a great time to do it in front of the home-town crowd, so I took the opportunity.  It definitely handles a little different than a late model, but I had a great time racing” stated Eilen.

Eilen would have to wait a few hours before the start of the Thunderstruck 93 with the multiple cautions and double red flags in the events prior.  When it came time for the ARCA Midwest Tour cars to come out on the track the air was definitely cool and the stars lit up the sky.

Jonathan started in the seventh position for the feature race, which was where he finished in the heat race the night before.  Eilen was quick to find his way to the top five where he would have to work hard to get passed a few experienced Midwest Tour drivers.  The #77 car was one of the fastest cars on the track and it was obvious that Eilen was anxious to get moving to the front.

At the break with 93 laps in, Eilen was sitting in the third position.  “The car feels great right now” stated Eilen in an on-track interview. “I have been trying to save the tires for the last few laps, so hopefully it pans out and we can find ourselves with a win here in front of the home crowd.”

Unfortunately, as the race got underway a fellow ARCA Midwest Tour driver made a poor choice and came in too hard into the corner spinning out Eilen and sending them both to the rear of the field.  A few laps later another car would spin and clip the rear-end of the #77 car leaving Jonathan no choice but to head to the pits for repairs.

“It is just disappointing” stated Eilen after the race. “We had a great car tonight and I know we could have had a top three finish, if not a win, had that driver not taken us out.”

Eilen’s next race will be Championship weekend at the Annual Oktoberfest at LaCrosse Speedway in Onalaska, Wisconsin.  It will be a two-day show with qualifying and heat races on Saturday, October 5th and the feature event on Sunday, October 6th.  This race will conclude the 2013 race season for the Eilen Team and they are all hoping for a great finish.
