Hard Luck Sticks With Eilen at His Home Track

Elko, MN (June 6, 2010)  After a month without racing with the ASA Midwest Tour, Jonathan Eilen raced amongst a field filled of great drivers at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN.  The race was scheduled for Saturday, June 5th but weather delayed the racing action until Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Jonathan was one of the last drivers to qualify into Sunday’s race which ended up working out well for the Minnesota native as he qualified in the 8th position.  “We haven’t qualified this well in awhile” stated Eilen. “I know we have a great car today. I was fortunate to be able to come out and race at Elko the past two weekends which will hopefully be in our favor for today’s race.”

Elko Speedway happens to be Jonathan’s home track, so it was convenient for him to head out to the track for a couple races during the month off of ASAMT racing.  Jonathan used the first weekend as a test for his car and the second to “see what it could do.”  And it could do a lot. Jonathan finished in the second position on Saturday, May 29th in a close race to the finish line.

Eilen was right.  His car was great on the track.  He started in the 5th position and it wasn’t long before he was in second and ready to contend for the lead.  But as bad luck would stick with Eilen and his team, the alternator went out and Jonathan ended up finishing the race in the 22nd position.  “It is a bummer.  It is obvious that we had a top three car out there.  We just can’t catch a break.” Stated a frustrated driver.  “We will take it back to the shop and get it straightened out for Friday’s race in Hawkeye Downs.  I can’t thank my crew enough for their hard work today and getting me back on the track only a few laps down.  Hopefully next weekend we can see everyone in victory lane.”

The next ASA Midwest Tour race will be held this Friday, June 11th at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Qualifying will begin at 5p.m. with racing at 7p.m.

Jonathan will not only be racing twice this week, but he will also be showing his semi truck at the Shell Rotella SuperRigs Calendar Show in Lexington, Virginia.  Jonathan had one of his dad’s drivers, and close friend, Brad Caton, leave with his truck Sunday morning and he and his brother, Pat, flew out Monday morning to help get it ready.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports crew will be working on the car while Jonathan will be cleaning and polishing his truck all week to get his truck ready to show this weekend. Unfortunately, Jonathan will miss his truck being judged as he will fly back Thursday in time to leave Friday morning for the Keith Fleck Miller 100.

BEST OF LUCK JONATHAN!!!

Satisfactory Finish for Eilen

Oregon, WI  (May 2, 2010)  Jonathan Eilen and the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team raced their first race of the 2010 race season on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Madison International Speedway.  The driver and his crew traveled to Oregon, WI on Saturday for a full day of practice and a good night of rest before Sunday’s race, the Joe Sherer Classic 136.

There were nearly forty cars who came out to practice on Saturday and more teams were planning on showing up for the race on Sunday.  “This weekend’s competition is going to be one of the hardest,” stated Eilen.  During practice on Saturday Jonathan found himself sitting amongst the top fifteen drivers which was energizing for both Jonathan and his crew.

Qualifying began at 1 p.m. with the hot sun shining down on the track. Jonathan was among the first twenty drivers to qualify under the hot sun while the rest of the drivers lucked out with cloud cover.  “As the track cools the cars get faster,” stated Crew Chief Jason.  As Jonathan watched the rest of qualifying he watched his name slowly fall from seventh position all the way to thirtieth.  This meant Jonathan was left to race in the Last Chance race in hopes of making the Joe Sherer Classic 136.

Unfortunately, Jonathan finished eigth in the Last Chance race and needed to finish seventh or better.  Because of his season last year, and being a Swiss Colony Touring Star, he was able to race the Joe Sherer Classic 136 on a provisional.  Jonathan started in the twenty-sixth position and was able to race his way to a respectable fourteenth finish.

Although it was not an ideal race day for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team, everyone was satisfied with the finish.  Jonathan, and the ASA Midwest Tour, will take a month break before racing on June 5th at Jonathan’s home track of Elko Speedway.  Qualifying will start at 4:00 p.m. for the ASA Midwest Tour Late Models with racing at 6:00 p.m.

ASA Midwest Tour Season Opener is May 2nd!

Jonathan Eilen will once again be competing in the ASA Midwest Tour Series for the 2010 race season. The season opener, the Joe Shear Classic 136, will be on Sunday, May 2nd at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI.

This season Jonathan will welcome back all of his sponsors from last year.  "I am so fortunate to have all of my sponsors come back this year.  With the hard economic times I wasn't sure if everyone would be able to help out again.  I can not express in words how much I appreciate all of their help and support" stated Eilen.

Thank you, again, to all of my sponsors: Eilen & Sons Trucking, Pathfinder Chassis, RaceTeamGear.com, B&B Racing Engines, Graber Auto Body, Mulvihill Excavating, BT Design Signs, Rollin' Transport, and Buckshot Express.

Qualifying will start at 1:00 p.m. for the Joe Shear Classic 136 with racing starting at 3:00 p.m.  For more information and directions visit www.asamidwesttour.com.  See you there!

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT SEASON!

The 2009 season was full of ups and downs this year with multiple changes as the season went on.  Even though things did not go perfectly as planned, I am very pleased with the final results of the 2009 ASA Midwest Tour Season and I could not have done that without all of the help and support from my family, crewmembers, friends, and fans.  To all of you I would like to say THANK YOU!

My Parents:

Most importantly, I would like to say thank you my mom and dad. Their endless love and support has shown throughout my racing career and has helped me become the person, and driver, I am today.  My mom is amazing. She does all of the stuff that probably wouldn’t get done if she didn’t do it; like cleaning the race hauler, keeping my race suit and crew shirts clean, booking hotel rooms, making food, and the list goes on! Oh, and did I mention she has never missed a race! Thanks mom! As for my dad, he is the strongest guy on my team.  My dad has always supported me in my dreams of driving a race car. Without his help there is no way I could be doing what I am doing week after week. His schedule is crazy and hectic, but he always makes time to watch me race.  His ongoing support is amazing! Thank you so much for everything dad!

The Crew:

This year I was blessed with an amazing crew and would like to thank each of them for their hard work and dedication.

Anthony Lyman is the guy who is always there.  He has put so much time into helping me this year with everything from cleaning to scaling the car, fixing the broken pieces, unloading/loading, and leaving to every race, and test, early so we get there on time (or well...close to!)  I can’t thank him enough for all of his hard work and dedication to the team this year!

Jason Shuler was new to the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team this year and had a great impact on this year’s season.  He served as my crew chief for the year, bringing an extreme amount of knowledge to the team that helped us finish the season in 5th place.  As part owner of Pathfinder Chassis, he is no stranger to racecars or any of the tracks we travel to. Thank you Jason!

Jayson Edmunds was also a new face to the team this year coming onto the crew as the spotter. This is a job many people do not enjoy doing, but that is not the case for Jayson. With his enthusiasm he was able to keep me positive throughout the race no matter what place I was in. I wouldn’t want any other person as my second set of eyes on the track!

Greg Scheffler has a very important role on the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team…driving the race hauler!  There are not many people who enjoy driving hours with little sleep to and from the races, so having this man drive week after week is a plus!

Jake Adelmann is a guy who has been with me from the beginning of my racing career. He is someone who “just knows” what to do in any situation.  He is a hard worker who is able to get the job done (even if the night before was rough).

My brother, Pat, has always supported me and my love of racing. He is the person who keeps me “in line” both on and off the track. With the stress of this past season, there is no way I would have made it to the end as successfully as I did without him by my side.

Mitch Larson has really stepped up and helped me a lot this year.  As someone who is working out of state or on the farm most of the time, he still made time to attend and help out at many of my races. He is not only great help on the race team, but also a good friend to keep everything (and everyone) in control!

Gene White “Whitey” is the man of all traits!  This guy is one of the perkiest old men I (and anyone who has met him) know!  He is a go-getter who likes a challenge.  There was not a moment at the track that he was not busy whether it be working on the car or keeping everyone in line. “Whitey” is a guy that everyone loves around and I appreciate all he does.

Aaron “Big Show” Haywood is our “personal chef” of the team. He is always cooking up something for the team so no one goes hungry. Along with being the cook, he is someone I can turn to for help. Without him this past year I’m not sure how I would have gotten through all of the ups and downs.

Joe Hunter is always found with his camera taking random pictures for everyone (and man do we have a lot!)  As one of my sponsors, he is also considered part of the pit crew because he is always there to keep everyone in line (even if the only thing he has in his hand is a camera).  He is the guy who always makes sure everyone is having a good time before, during and after the races! Thanks for keeping our spirits up!

The Sponsors:

Thank you so much to each of my 2009 sponsors!  Without your help it wouldn’t be possible for me to race week after week.  Some sponsors this year are new and some have been with me for multiple years, either way you are all equally important and I can not thank each of you enough for your help! Thank you!

The ASA Midwest Tour Staff:

Thank you for taking the time to make the ASA Midwest Tour a great series to race in week after week. The entire staff is always friendly which makes a memorable season.

The Fans:

Thank you to some of the most important people; my fans!  Many of you have supported me since I started racing and cannot thank you enough for the ongoing support as I move up in the racing world.  It is always comforting to see and hear everyone cheering for me week after week, even if the race is six hours away. My family and friends mean so much to me and without your support I wouldn’t be where I am today.  I would like to say thank you to the guys at Eilen & Sons trucking for keeping up on the maintenance of the hauler to ensure we are getting back and forth each weekend, along with keeping everything looking good as we drive down the road.  Thank you Cam, Kerry, Brock, Nick, and Brad for all your help.   I would especially like to thank my little sister, Jodie, for traveling from Chicago many weekends to watch me race.  She has always shown so much support for my love of racing and I can’t say thank you enough to her!  And lastly, even though he doesn’t understand much right now, I have to say thank you to my nephew Jaden.  He has made it to many of my races this season and it is awesome seeing him in the stands.  He has brought so much happiness and laughter to all of our lives this past year and I can’t thank him enough for making me smile every time I see him!  Love You Little Buddy!!

Thank you all so much for sticking with me through the ups and downs of this 2009 season. You are all very important to me and I can not thank you enough for your time and effort.  I look forward to seeing each of you next year for the 2010 racing season!

HARD CRASH FINISHES EILEN’S 2009 SEASON

LaCrosse, WI (October 11, 2009)  It wasn’t the way Jonathan Eilen wanted to finish off his ASA Midwest Tour 2009 Season, but after the rough season he had it was not a surprise.  Eilen went through many ups and downs this season and the crash during today’s 100 lap feature put the icing on the cake.

Jonathan hasn’t always had the best of luck during the Oktoberfest race weekend in past years, but this year he hoped to change that.  With Saturday’s practices going well he was confident that he would be able to qualify in the top 18 cars and put himself into the final feature race of the season.  But as luck would turn, the engine’s carburetor gave Eilen trouble as he went out to qualify and ended up in the 23rd position.  He would have to race one of the two fast qualifier races, and finish in the top three, to get into Sunday’s show.

Thankfully the #77 crew got to work and, with the help of another teammate, they were able to change carburetors in time to start on the front row of the first qualifying race.   Eilen was able to drive the #77 Chevy Monte Carlo to a second place finish putting him into Sunday’s show.

“I am so happy that I can go to bed tonight knowing that I don’t have to race the last chance race tomorrow morning” stated a relieved driver.  “This is the first year in a few years that we have gotten into the race without using a provisional.   Hopefully the momentum will keep going into tomorrow’s race.”

The excitement wasn’t over for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team as they brought the car out for the infamous Best Appearing Car and Crew challenge.  Seven teams were selected and through crowd applause/noise the best car and crew is chosen.  Last year, Eilen made it to the top two before being beat by the 87 team of driver Nathan Haseleu.  This year the Eilen Fan Club came in full force to be louder than everyone else, and they were!  They screamed and cheered for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team to win the 2009 Best Appearing Car and Crew Award!

“This is a great boost of confidence” stated Eilen.  “We always work so hard to keep everything clean both on and off the track.  My dad has raised us kids to take pride in everything we own, and that is all we know.  My crew has instilled the same quality into all they do and it definitely shows.  We are honored to be given this award.  Thank you to everyone who cheered for us today and every race!”

The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team was then able to pack everything up for the evening and enjoy Saturday night’s Big 8 and ASA North Series Races.

Sunday morning was chilly but that didn’t stop any of the drivers as they got ready for the on track autograph session.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team got the car out of the trailer and waxed so it was ready for the 100 lap feature that would start at 2 p.m.

Eilen was excited (as he always is) to get behind the wheel for the 100 lap feature race.   As the race began it took only 6 laps before the first caution was brought out; involving Eilen.  A few cars “checked-up” and the driver behind Eilen did not, causing him to hit Jonathan and spin him into the wall.  Fortunately, little damage was done to the 77 car and the Eilen & Sons Motorsports crew was able to fix the car and get Eilen back out on the track.

As the race went on, Jonathan held his own and began gaining ground.  He continued to challenge the 25 of Jeff Storm for position as the race reached the halfway mark.  Shortly after the halfway mark, on lap 64 Eilen’s throttle stuck as he got back on the gas coming out of turn two sending him straight into the wall…at full speed.

The crash completely wrecked the front end of the 77 Eilen & Sons Motorsports car along with shaking up the driver.  “It happened so fast.  Once I realized what had happened I just shut off all the power.” stated a shaken up driver.

Jonathan was taken to the hospital by his parents and friends to ensure he was okay.  After some tests, Eilen was released and is at home resting.  Unfortunately, due to the severity of the crash Jonathan will be unable to race in Nashville, TN on November 1st as he had hoped to.

Although the final race of the season ended in a crash, the points race didn’t change too much.  Jonathan was able to finish the ASA Midwest Tour 2009 Season in the fifth position!  Congratulations to the whole 77 Team!!

EILEN PUTS ON A GOOD SHOW AFTER A ROCKY START

Elko, MN (September 26, 2009) The day started off terrible for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team as they rolled out for practice and noticed that their fuel cell had mysteriously been filled with water. It took the Eilen Team some time to empty and refuel the fuel cell along with checking the car over to ensure nothing else was tampered with leading them to miss the first full practice session.  With only one practice session under his belt, Jonathan was anxious to go out for qualifying.

It was noticeable that the little amount of practice did not affect Jonathan all that much after he qualified with a time of 13.791 putting him 5th on the board. With the invert Eilen started the feature on the outside of the third row.

Eilen remained in the fifth position throughout the race as the legendary Steve Carlson challenged him for that position the majority of the race.  Both drivers raced a clean race as they battled for position.  It wasn’t until the last lap that Jacob Goede would charge for the fifth position; and in attempt to hold of Jake Ryan, Jonathan moved behind Goede crossing the finish line at the same time as Carlson.  Unfortunately, Carlson crossed the line inches before Jonathan who settled for 7th.

“Although it was not the perfect finish, we are happy with how everything turned out,” stated Eilen.  “Carlson and I were able to race a clean race and put on a good show at the end for the fans, it’s just too bad I couldn’t hold him off at the end.  I have to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to my crew.  There is no way I could have done it today, especially after the incident this morning, without all of them.  They are awesome people both on and off the track and I couldn’t be luckier to have them all on my team.”

The last race of the season will be held at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway during the Oktoberfest weekend, October 9th – 11th.  After Elko’s race Jonathan is only two points out of 4th place, right behind Tim Schendel.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team hopes to see everyone at LaCrosse Speedway to cheer on Jonathan as he finishes out the ASA Midwest Tour 2009 Season.

EILEN FINISHES ON THE PODIUM AT NORWAY

Norway, MI (September 6, 2009) After a seven race slump, driver Jonathan Eilen has finished on the podium once again!  “It was truly a remarkable race,” stated Jonathan’s mother, Julie as she congratulated him after the race.

Jonathan was among the top ten in practice all day, and with the help of his crew members he was able to qualify in the fifth position.  “This is the best we have qualified in awhile, he (Jonathan) really needed this confidence boost for the race,” stated crew chief Jason Schuler.

After the invert, Jonathan was placed on the outside of the fourth row (8th); not exactly the best place to start at this third-mile track.  But Eilen was able to beat the odds and race his way to a second place finish.  “It was a great race to watch,” stated Tom Eilen (Jonathan’s dad and owner of Eilen & Sons Motorsports). “He drove an aggressive race while feeling ill and it paid off.”

“I would have loved to win here, but when you are going against Jamie Iverson (the race winner) who has the last three Labor Day 100 wins here and several championships you can’t complain about finishing second,” stated a very happy driver. “I definitely couldn’t have done it without the help from my crew. They worked hard on the car today to get it where it needed to be for tonight’s race. I am fortunate to have them every weekend.”

Jonathan will have a two-week break from racing before bringing the ASA Midwest Tour cars to his home track at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota on Saturday, September 26th.  Qualifying will start at 4:00 p.m. with racing beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Although Eilen will have a break from racing for the next couple weeks he will not be bored.  As new owner of Jonathan Eilen Trucking, Jonathan has recently taken the next step in the trucking world and purchased his first day-cab semi truck.  He will be getting it ready for Minnesota’s largest truck show in Kasson, Minnesota which is held September 11th-13th.  Keep an eye out for Jonathan and his new black and orange truck with black flames            (yes black!) when you are driving the Minnesota and Wisconsin roads.  Jonathan will also be pulling the tire trailer to Elko Speedway on Saturday, September 26th with his new truck so be sure to stop by and check it out!

EILEN CONTINUES TO IMPROVE HIS LUCK

Shakopee, MN (August 16th)  Jonathan Eilen, and the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team started off Sunday morning with an “awesome car,” as Pat Eilen would say.  Jonathan was one of the fastest cars all day in practice, but when it was time to qualify the car got really tight and Eilen ended up qualifying in the 22nd position.  Due to the hard luck the Eilen team has experienced the past few weeks, Eilen has used up both of his provisionals for the 2009 race season leaving him with no choice but to make it in the feature based on his finish in the last chance race.

Jonathan started on the second row, outside, for the last chance 30 lap race; not where any driver likes to be at Raceway Park with the best grove around the track being the inside.  Luckily, Eilen was able to work his way up to finishing in the third position, putting him into the feature where he would start in the 21st position.

The 100 lap feature was filled with action as cars spun out, wrecked, and had motor problems causing many cautions.  Eilen drove smart through all of the issues on the track and raced his way to an 11th place position.  “It isn’t exactly how I thought it would go this morning, but we will take it” stated Eilen after the race.  “I am just happy my crew was able to coach me to move-up 10 positions and bring the car home in one piece.”

The next ASA Midwest Tour event will be on Sunday, September 6th at Norway Speedway in Norway, Michigan for the Labor Day 100.  Qualifying will begin at 4:00 p.m. with feature racing beginning at 6:00 p.m.

BETTER RUN FOR EILEN TEAM

Shakopee, MN (Sunday, August 9th)  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team traveled a short distance to race at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN on Sunday night for one of Raceway Park’s weekly races.  “It was nice to race for fun for a night and not have to worry about the points chase that we are all in with the ASA Midwest Tour” stated Eilen.  “We race again here next Sunday with the Tour, so hopefully the little bit of extra time on the track will fair well for us.”

Jonathan finished the heat race in the second position and put on a good finish in the feature crossing the start/finish line at the same time as the local point leader; Eilen settled for fifth.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team will continue to work on the race car this week for the ASA Midwest Tour’s ninth stop on the tour here at Raceway Park.  Qualifying will start at 4:00 p.m. and feature racing will get underway at 6:00 p.m.

EILEN TEAM CONTINUES TO PUSH THROUGH HARD LUCK

Kaukauna, WI (Tuesday, August 4, 2009)  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team came home Tuesday night with a little sigh of relief after the Dixieland 150 held at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, Wisconsin.  “Although we did not finish the race within the top ten cars, we were able to bring the car home in one piece for the first time in a few weeks” stated Eilen. “Our brakes burned up with about twenty laps to go leaving me no choice but to pull off with ten to go.”

Jonathan Eilen is remaining positive after Tuesday’s race and is looking forward to racing at Raceway Park in Shakopee, Minnesota on Sunday, August 9th.  “I am excited to race close to home for a couple weekends.  This race wasn’t on our original 2009 schedule, but with a free weekend from the ASA Midwest Tour I thought it would be fun to get back out on the track with some of the local drivers I used to compete with every weekend.”

Qualifying for Sunday’s race will begin at 5:30 p.m. and racing will start at 6:00 p.m. Jonathan, and the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team, hopes to see all of you there!

IMPRESSIVE RUN FOR EILEN CUT SHORT

Hampton, MN (July 27, 2009) Jonathan Eilen had the pleasure of racing for the Cunningham Motorsports team at Berlin Raceway this past weekend.  Eilen raced the Cunningham Motorsports Dodge #4 car in the Wolverine Power Systems 200 on Saturday where he made quite the impression.

“Berlin Raceway is a tricky track,” stated one of the Cunningham Motorsports crew members. “It is all turning.  The only straight away is on pit road and there are no walls on the back side of the track; only grass and trees.”  Only knowing this before getting on the track for the ARCA/REMAX practice, Eilen was sure to show everyone that he could drive well on this “tricky track.”

Eilen’s practice times showed the crew, and other drivers, that this rookie could drive.  Jonathan was the sixth fastest car on the track by the end of the practice session; ahead of teammate and ARCA/REMAX point leader Parker Kligerman.

With the practice session under his belt, Jonathan was ready for qualifying.  As qualifying got underway the clouds began to roll in.  Eilen was part of the first half of cars to qualify, which was under sunny and hot conditions, and was able to qualify in the ninth position.

Jonathan started on the fifth row, inside and was quick to work his way to the seventh position.  As the race got underway lap traffic became an issue for Eilen and the other drivers trying to pass for position.  “Every time Jonathan would get under a car he would have to back off to get around a lap car,” stated Jonathan’s brother Pat.

As the half way mark drew closer the Cunningham Motorsports Dodge #4 team, along with many of the other teams on the lead lap, chose to pit during the caution on lap 76.  Legendary Crew Chief, Paul Andrews, made the call on a few adjustments and to change all four tires on the #4 Dodge.

The changes were exact and Jonathan found himself with the fastest car on the track, running one to two tenths faster than the leader.  It wasn’t long before Eilen would catch up to the leaders and contend for the second place position.  Unfortunately Eilen’s night was cut short on lap 125 when a lap car caught loose gravel off of turn four and spun out right in front of Jonathan.  With no place to go, Eilen hit the rear end of the lap car at almost full speed and was left with his dreams of finishing well crushed.

“It’s just too bad it had to end that way,” stated Eilen after the race. “I had such a great car tonight and I can’t thank the crew and owners Mark Gibson and Kerry Scherer enough for everything they have done for me.  This has definitely been the best experience and I really hope I am able to race for Cunningham Motorsports again.  Hopefully it will end better the next time.”

JONATHAN EILEN WILL GET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO RACE IN THE ARCA/REMAX SERIES

Hampton, MN (July 21, 2009) On Saturday, July 25, 2009 Jonathan Eilen will compete in the Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac at the Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.  Eilen will be racing in the Cunningham Motorsports Dodge #4 car and is eager to get in and drive.  “I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to race another ARCA/REMAX race and am very excited to work with the Cunningham Motorsports Dodge team.” Stated an eager driver.

Eilen flew out last Wednesday to meet with the team and is thrilled to be driving for them this weekend.  This will be the second ARCA/REMAX race for Jonathan this 2009 season, but the first with Cunningham Motorsports.  Jonathan raced on May 9th at Kentucky Speedway for the Drive Smart Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 where he finished in the 13th position after blowing a motor in practice and starting at the rear of the field.  Jonathan is looking forward to a great weekend of racing with Cunningham Motorsports and excited to be working with such a successful group of people.  Eilen’s crew chief for this weekend’s race will be Paul Andrews who was crew chief for Alan Kulwicki when he won the Winston Cup Championship in 1992 and most recently crew chief for Michael Waltrip in 2008.  With a knowledgeable team and many successful races already this 2009 season, Eilen is excited to be a part of the Cunningham Motorsports Team.

ANOTHER TOUGH RACE AT THE DELLS

Wisconsin Dells, WI (July 18, 2009)  The day started out pretty well for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team as practice got underway at Dells Raceway Park on the cloudy afternoon.  The Eilen team was confident going into qualifying where they would be one of the first cars on the track.  Jonathan was able to qualify in the 17th position putting him on the front row for the odd heat race.

Eilen was able to hold onto the first place position until the last lap when the #99 car got around him. Jonathan settled for second.  “I am happy we made it in (the feature) on qualifying and that we had a good clean run during the heat race.” Stated Eilen after the heat race. “Now all I have to hope for is a good feature race and bringing home a car in one piece.”

Unfortunately Eilen’s luck did not change from the last visit at Dells Raceway Park and on lap 24 he was turned around by a car trying to pass in the middle of turn one and two.  The back end of Eilen’s car hit the wall so hard he bent his headrest and broke the foot petal.  Not knowing if any other damage on the car, Jonathan continued to race, but four laps later he was black flagged for smoke coming out of the rear end of his car.

The 77 crew was quick to get Jonathan back out on the track, only putting him five laps down.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports car was able to keep up with the leaders on the track, even though he was still five laps down and was having car trouble.  “It is such a shame that he got spun out again here at Dells Raceway Park,” stated Jonathan’s dad, Tom. “His car handled well even though he hit the wall so hard.”

With 50 laps to go, a mandatory caution stopped all of the cars on the infield of the track.  After examining the car, Eilen and his crew found two broken motor mounts, a broken transmission, a pinched oil line, and much more damage that they had not known about.  It was decided by the whole team to call it a night and save as much of the car as they could.

“We just can’t catch a break.” Said a frustrated driver. “I just wish our luck would turn around.  We haven’t left a race with a car in one piece in a few weeks now and it is so hard to find time to work on everything while working 40 hours a week for my dad’s company.  I can only hope things start to turn around.”

The next ASA Midwest Tour race will be held on Tuesday, August 4th at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI for the ASA Dixieland 150.  This 150 lap feature will include NASCAR Camping World Champion Ron Hornaday and NASCAR Sprint Series Cup Driver Kevin Harvick.

BAD LUCK STICKS WITH THE #77 TEAM FOR SATURDAY’S RACE

Cedar Rapids, IA (July 3, 2009)  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday, July 3 for the Keith Fleck/Miller Memorial 100 race at Hawkeye Downs Motor Speedway.  Practices were held a few hours before qualifying and the #77 car was within the top three fastest cars.

Jonathan qualified in the 9th position, which put him on the second row for the feature race.  With luck looking up for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team Eilen prepared for the 100-lap feature.  “After Tuesday’s luck we are hoping for a top five finish, or better yet a win” stated Eilen before getting in the car.  Luck seemed to have changed right then.  When Jonathan went to start the car he realized that the starter had gone out and he would need to a push to get started.  “If this is the worst that happens, we are okay” stated crewmember Anthony.

As the race got underway it looked as though Jonathan had one of the stronger cars on the track.  He was in complete control until lap 15 when another car lost control and cut down the track as Jonathan was passing.  This caused Jonathan’s car to drive over top of the front end of the other car, literally jumping the racecar.  Miraculously Jonathan’s car did not roll and he continued racing, without a caution and only loosing one position during the incident, as his car’s body panels slowly peeled back.

“He is a great driver.  There are not many drivers out there who would be able to maintain control of a car that has just driven over another car and complete the 100-lap race with body panels falling off, a bent rim, and many other broken parts” stated Gene White, one of Eilen’s crewmembers.

Eilen was able to finish the 100-lap feature on the lead lap in the 14th position.  “I can’t be too mad about the situation.  Accidents happen, and the driver of the other car explained what happened.  Hopefully our luck will turn around for the Dells in a couple of weeks.  Until then we will fix up the car.” Stated Eilen.

The next ASA Midwest Tour race will be Saturday, July 18th at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI.  This will be the second of the three-part Race for the Gold series event.  Qualifying will start at 4:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

TOUGH NIGHT FOR THE EILEN & SONS MOTORSPORTS TEAM

Madison, WI (June 30, 2009)  After the many practice sessions Monday afternoon the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team was confident for the “All Star Challenge Race Featuring Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart” that would be held Tuesday evening.

Jonathan was second to qualify Tuesday evening and did well enough to make the main event without running the last chance races.  With a good qualifying run, Eilen found himself sitting on the front row with Matt Kenseth for the feature race.  With rain in the forecast, the Madison International Speedway Officials decided to run the last chance races for both the Big 8 and Super Late Model Series a half an hour early and start the features with “the big race” featuring Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart before the Big 8 feature.

The feature race started off well for Eilen as he quickly made his move to take over the lead as the green flag flew, but was over come by Kenseth on lap three.  Eilen slowly fell to the fifth position where he would stay until a few laps before the mandatory caution at lap 50, where he fell to the seventh position.  The #77 crew made some small adjustments to the car and noticed the brake pads were beginning to wear down.

Eilen was able to race the car with little brakes until lap 73 when he noticed he no longer had brakes.  This ended Eilen’s night at Madison International Speedway and although he was disappointed; he is looking forward to Saturday’s ASA Midwest Tour Race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Keith Fleck/Miller 100 qualifying will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the popular autograph session at 6:00 p.m. and feature racing will begin at 7:00 p.m.

NEW SPEEDWAY FAIRS WELL FOR EILEN TEAM

(June 22, 2009)  After a rough weekend at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells a few weeks ago, the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team was looking for a better outcome at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana.

Prior to the Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 at Illiana Motor Speedway, Eilen had to not only fix a car that was wrecked at Dells Raceway Park during the first of three “Race for the Gold” races but also had to replace a motor in the other car and fix up his brother, Jake’s, truck for the upcoming Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs Calendar competition.  With a lot of work ahead of him, Jonathan was up endless hours trying to get everything ready while maintaining his full-time job as a truck driver.  “I do not know how he can do it!  He works so hard all of the time and doesn’t take a break until it is finished” states his girlfriend, Krystle.  “Many times I find myself at the race shop or truck shop helping just so I can see him!”

Although it took a lot of endless hours in the shop, Jonathan and his brother, Pat, were able to finish their brother Jake’s truck before Pat headed down to Missouri for the show.  On Thursday Pat called home to let everyone know that Jake’s truck had made the 2010 calendar.  What an honor!  They would soon wait for the awards on Saturday to see how the truck would fair against the many other trucks.

Along with finishing Jake’s semi truck, Jonathan and crew member, Anthony, spent hours finishing both of the racecars to get ready for the Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 that would be held at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 20.

With a temperature of about 90 degrees, Eilen was able to have two good practices before qualifying Saturday afternoon.  Shortly before qualifying, Jonathan received a phone call from his brother Pat with wonderful news.  Jake’s truck was Runner-Up Best of Show and one of his dad’s trucks, driven by Brat Caton, won Best of Show.  “After getting such great news from Missouri before qualifying, I had a great feeling about my upcoming race” stated Jonathan.

Eilen was able to qualify fifth out of twenty-six cars and would start in the eighth position after the invert.  Eilen quickly moved to a top five position and never left.  At the mandatory break on lap 75, Jonathan was sitting in third and ready to challenge the #9 car of Mark Kraus and the #72 car of Jacob Goede for the top spot.  Eilen was able to get around Kraus on the re-start for second place but was unable to hold him off and settled for third.

“It was a great race.  Everyone was able to race side-by-side cleanly and we are all able to leave tonight with cars in one piece” stated Eilen.  “I have to say a big thank you to my crew.  They worked so hard tonight and helped bring us to a podium finish. I am so lucky to have the great crew that I do and I can’t thank them enough.”

Jonathan Eilen will have the weekend off, but will have a full week of racing the following week with the “All Star Challenge” featuring Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth on Tuesday, June 30th and the Keith Fleck Miller 100 ASAMT race on Friday, July 3rd at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

ANOTHER TOP 5 FINISH FOR EILEN

(May 25, 2009)  Waking up to a morning rain shower didn’t seem too promising for the ASA Midwest Tour race on Saturday, May 23rd, but it wasn’t long before the clouds pushed away and the sun came out.  Practice sessions began at twelve thirty with over thirty cars taking the track.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team had handling problems during the first session and the second practice session did not go well either.

Unsure with how the car would handle, Eilen gave it his all for qualifying and was able to qualify in the eleventh position.  After the roll of a three and an invert of eleven, Eilen found himself on the pole for the feature event.

Before the 125 lap feature the Last Chance Race was ran along with the top eighteen qualifiers running the odd/even heat race.  Jonathan started in the second row for this short 15 lap race, but did not stay there for long.  Eilen was able to race his way to a win gaining confidence for the feature event.

The feature event started with Jonathan on the pole and Jacob Goede to the outside of him.  Eilen was unable to hold the lead on the inside and found himself falling as the race began.  Jonathan was finally able to get on the outside groove and start moving up in position.  Eilen followed the #72 of Jacob Goede for a few laps and decided the only way to get around him was on the inside groove.  With the outside being a faster lane, it took Eilen nearly twenty laps to get around the #72 car.

At lap 75 a mandatory break stopped all of the cars on the racetrack to refuel and make adjustments.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team only made a few slight changes to the car before the racing resumed.  Adam Royle put pressure on the #77 car for the last fifteen laps of the race, but Eilen was able to hold him off for a respectable fifth place finish.

“I can’t be happier with the way we finished tonight” stated Eilen. “With the car not running well in practice and then running hot at the end of the race I was worried that we wouldn’t finish well, but thanks to the help of my crew members I was able to come out with a top five finish.”

Jonathan Eilen will travel to Dells Raceway Park on Saturday, May 30th for the Race For the Gold-Bronze Race that was rescheduled after the April 26th rain out.  Qualifying starts at 4:00 p.m. and racing will begin at 6:30 p.m, for updates on practice, qualifying, and racing check out www.asamidwesttour.com.

EILEN SURPRISES ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

(May 22, 2009)  The elementary students at Pinecrest Elementary School in Hastings, Minnesota, were surprised to see the Eilen & Sons Motorsports race hauler and driver Jonathan Eilen at their school Friday afternoon.  Jonathan’s girlfriend, Krystle Graber, is student teaching at Pinecrest Elementary School and wanted to surprise her class with the appearance of Jonathan and his racecar.

At about 2:00 p.m. Jonathan pulled into the parking lot with his big, head-turning race hauler and unloaded the car for the students to see.  “The kids were ecstatic! We could not keep them away from Jonathan and the car,” stated Krystle.

As the school day came to an end, students from every grade level came to see Jonathan and his racecar. “I was definitely surprised to see all of the kids come and see me and ask for my autograph,” stated Jonathan after signing nearly two hundred cards.

“The students absolutely loved Jonathan.  He was the talk of the school for the rest of the day,” said girlfriend Krystle. “I am so glad he was able to come out and visit the kids this afternoon.  It is a new experience for many of the students in this elementary school and he defintitley made a good impression on the elementary students and staff for the sport of racing.”

After visiting the students at Pinecrest Elementary School, Jonathan made his way to Kwik Trip in Lakeville, Minnesota for a special appearance with fellow ASAMT Touring Star Dan Fredrickson.  Both drivers pulled out their racecars for people to see, signed autographs, and were a part of the KRDS 95.5FM radio show.

Tomorrow Jonathan and the Eilen & Sons Motorsports Team head to Elko Speedway for the third ASA Midwest Tour race of the season.  Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota is Eilen’s home track and he is excited to be racing close to home for Memorial Day Weekend.  Check out www.asamidwesttour.com throughout the day for live updates on practice, qualifying, and racing.

EILEN PUTS ON A SHOW AT IOWA SPEEDWAY

(May 17, 2009) Eilen & Sons Motorsports traveled to the prestige Iowa Speedway track in Newton, Iowa on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The day was cold and windy for the ASA Midwest Tour drivers which had a slight effect on the cars. Eilen completed the practice sessions and the car was set to run well for the 100 lap race.

Eilen qualified in the eigth position, and after the invert he found himself on the second row inside. Jonathan was able to remain in the third position for the first fifteen laps before passing the 22 car for second place where he stayed for the majority of the race. Before the break at lap 60 Jonathan was starting to close in on the lead car of Tim Schendel.

During the six minute break the Eilen & Sons Motorsports crew made a few adjustments to the car in hopes to make it strong enough to get around the leader. At the start of the remaining 40 laps, Schendel pulled away to lead the race by 15 car lengths. Eilen persisted and was able to catch up to the #21 car with 20 laps to go. He knew catching the leader was going to be one thing, but getting around him was going to be another. Eilen was determined to find away around the lead car. The two drivers had strengths in different areas. Jonathan was able to get a run on Schendel out of the corner but did not have enough momentum to safely clear the #21 car before the end of the straight away. The two drivers battled back and forth for twenty laps wearing down their tires.

With five laps remaining Jonathan had devised a way to complete the race with a photo finish. At lap 97 Eilen and Schendel were surprised as the #52 car of Chris Wimmer had caught up to them and was able to get around the two drivers for the lead. Eilen did not give up and was able to have that photo finish with the #21 car for the second position. Eilen came up a few inches short and ended up in the third position.

Overall, it was a good race with a lot of action for the record breaking 23,000 fans. Eilen now finds himself sitting in third in the overall point standing. The next race will be at Jonathan's home track, Elko Speedway, on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m.

ARCA Debut a Success for Jonathan Eilen

(May 11, 2009) Jonathan Eilen made his debut in the ARCA/REMAX Series at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky on Saturday, May 9, 2009. The day began with dryers on the track after heavy rain all day Friday. Officials were unable to get the track completely dry in time for the first practice session, so the decision was made to delay practice and cancel qualifying.

Practice got underway with a few cars out on the track. Eilen was one of the first out, and unfortunately one of the first in. The new motor that had been placed in the car early in the week blew up after a few laps of practice. Eilen was left to make a decision. He could either pack up and call it a day or put a motor, with multiple races on it, in the car for the race.

“It was easy to see that Jonathan wanted to do nothing more than get out on the track and race,” stated his mom, Julie Eilen. “I could just see it in his eyes.”

She was right too. Although Eilen knew the motor was not going to be as strong as the others on the track, he decided to have the second motor put into the car. “This is an opportunity of a life time,” stated Jonathan, “I didn’t want to give up after a bad practice. I wanted to make sure we tried everything before packing up and heading home.”

The crew worked hard and was able to get the #38 Quaker Steak & Lube/Eilen Trucking car put back together and cleaned in time for the race. Due to the engine change, Eilen was forced to start in the 35th position.

It wasn’t long after the race got underway that Jonathan Eilen started picking off the positions. He was moving forward at a steady pace and before everyone knew it he found himself on the top-twenty board. Jonathan proved that he could drive to a solid finish even with a weaker motor. He finished the race in a respectable 13th position and was able to leave his first ARCA/REMAX race satisfied.

“It was definitely a lot of fun out there,” stated Eilen after the 100 lap race, “it is a totally different experience than short track racing.”

Jonathan will be back in the #77 car for this upcoming weekend. He will travel with the ASA Midwest Tour to Newton, Iowa to race at the 7/8 mile Iowa Speedway track. Last year Eilen finished second in this race and is looking forward to another good weekend.

2008

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT SEASON!

Now that the ASA Midwest Tour racing season has come to an end I would like to take the time to thank those who have helped me throughout the year.

My Parents:

Most importantly I would like to thank my mom and dad for their ongoing support throughout my racing career.  No matter the distance I can always count on both of them to be there showing their support. My mom is always helping with the "behind the scenes" things such as coolers being full, booking hotel rooms, and keeping my race suit and crew shirts clean week after week.  My dad is without a doubt one of the strongest guys on my team.  No matter how busy his work schedule is, or how much pain he is in, he makes a point to be at every race.  He is the guy who makes racing possible for me week after week.

The Crew:

Jason Cihak, my crew chief/spotter, without a doubt puts his time into helping me race week in and week out.  He, along with me, puts in 40+ hours a week in at his full time job plus finds time to drive an hour almost every night to help me work on the race car which most times equals to another 40+ hours a week. With all of these hours working he doesn?t have much time to spend with his five-year-old daughter Payton, who does her best to stay awake to watch the late night races and see her dad after he is done working.  Without Jason's help there is no way I would be able to be as competitive as I have been this year. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Anthony Lyman has put in a lot of time this season into my racing career.  He does a lot of the smaller stuff that not a lot of people like to do, like cleaning the car week after week. He is the guy I can count on to be at every race, no matter what the situation.

Although they can't always be at the shop during the week I would like to say thank you to Greg Scheffler and Jake Adelmann.  Greg takes time away from his family to help me every weekend, even if it is more than just a Saturday night race.  Jake has been with me racing for the last five years and although he has to work second shift, he always finds time to come to the races.

I'd also like to thank my brother Pat.  Although he is busy with his own company he still finds time to drive the hauler or tire trailer to every race.  He not only drives the trucks to the races but also spots for me and keeps me calm during the races.  He too has been with me since the start of my racing career and I couldn't have gotten this far without him.

I would also like to thank Jeremiah Cihak, Mitch Larson, Gene White "Whitte", and Aaron "Big Show" Haywood for all of their time and effort during this race season.

Last but not the least my girlfriend, Krystle. Not only at the track but also away from it all, you have to deal with me and all the ups and down that we might face in a year. And for the wonderful updates you do on the website that keeps everyone updated weekly. Thanks!

The Sponsors:

Without the help of all of you there is no way I would be able to race week after week. Each and every one of you has helped me get as far as I am today and I am so thankful for that. Thank you:

Eilen & Sons Trucking

MAC Trailer

Outdoor Connection

B&B Racing Engines

Pathfinder Chasis

Mulvihill Excavating

Also, I want to thank Joe Wood and Jason Schuler for making an awesome chassis.  I wouldn't have been able to do as well as I did each race without your help. And who could forget Joe Hunter?  The races wouldn't be the same without the phenomenal cheese he brought every week!

The ASA Midwest Tour Staff:

Thank you for making the ASA Midwest Tour a great series to race in week after week.  It has truly been an enjoyable season and I can't thank you all enough for everything that you do.

The Fans:

Lastly, I would like to thank the some of the most important people to me; my fans. Throughout the years you have all been there supporting me at each of the races. Racing wouldn?t be the same without the cheering (and air horns) at each race. My family and friends are the most important to me, and there is no way I would be able to race every weekend without the support. I'd especially like to thank my little sister Jodie, my brother Jake, my sister-in-law Anne, and my nephew Jaden for supporting me for the past eight years of racing. Thank you to the fans at Elko Speedway for sticking with me throughout the many changes in my racing career and always being there. I'd also like to thank those of you who have traveled to watch the ASA Midwest Tour Races; I couldn't do it without all of your cheering. Thanks to my family and friends who have been with me through thick and thin, without your support I would have not become the driver I am today. Thank you so much for the ongoing support!

I look forward to seeing each of you next year for the 2009 racing season! Keep watching for more updates as we continue to compete throughout the winter months.

EXCELLENT FINISH TO END THE 2008 SEASON

November 2, 2008 (Nashville, TN) After qualifying at the top of the charts on Friday the Eilen and Sons Motorsports team was more than ready for Saturday’s 200 lap ASA race. The other 200 laps of the All-American 400 were raced by the CRA series.)

“After surprising myself and qualifying first yesterday I am hoping for another surprise today” stated Jonathan in a pre-race interview. Jonathan would start in the second row (4th place) after the invert for Saturday’s race. It wasn’t long before Eilen found himself sitting in second place on lap 4. After three cautions, Eilen was able to pass the lead car on lap 34, and with multiple cautions Eilen was able to lead through the first half of the race. A caution for pit stops flew at lap 100 bringing everyone down to pit road. Eilen’s crew was by far the fastest crew to change the tires and fill the fuel allowing Eilen to leave the pits quickly.

“Man, my crew guys did an amazing job getting me back out on the track,” stated Eilen in a post-race interview “especially since we didn’t have a whole lot of time to practice prior to coming here.”

As the second half of the 200 lap feature began Eilen found himself sitting in first place, but was closely followed by three of the fastest drivers in the ASA series. Cautions continued to fly throughout the second half of the race tightening up the pack of cars each time. With the multiple re-starts and his chances of getting far ahead of the group continuously being crushed, Eilen found himself struggling with the new set of tires. “It seemed like the second set of tires reacted differently than the first” stated Jonathan after the race “I did everything to save them, but the guys behind me were really fast.”Eilen slipped to third place on lap 156, and to fourth on lap 162 where he would find himself finishing.

“Being able to qualify at the top on Friday, lead 125 laps, finish 4th in the race, and race against some of the best drivers out there I have to say we had an awesome weekend. We all have worked many hours to get this car ready, and after the bad luck we had in LaCrosse, WI we definitely needed to end the season on a good race. I couldn’t be happier with the way this weekend went, and am excited to get things put together this winter for next season.” Exclaimed Jonathan.

EILEN TOPS THE QUALIFYING CHART IN NASHVILLE!

October 31, 2008 (Nashville, TN)  The Eilen & Sons Trucking team really "hauled the mail" today in qualifying for the American Speed Association RC Cola/Moonpie Southeast Asphalt Tour portion of the Adam Petty Memorial All-American 400 at the Music City Motorplex. Jonathan Eilen clocked a fast time of 18.767 in his second lap of qualifying to put him at the top of the chart.

"I  am really surprised" stated Eilen. "We have fought a tight car all day in practice and spent the day concentrating on freeing up the car for the race and not a lot of time on qualifying set-up".

"I feel pretty good about tomorrow" Eilen stated in a post qualifying interview. The # 77 Eilen & Sons Trucking Team appears to be ready for the challenge of the 200 lap race, slated to begin at 1:00pm tomorrow.

THE 2008 ASA MIDWEST TOUR SEASON COMES TO AN END AT LACROSSE

With the last race of the 2008 ASA Midwest Tour coming to an end, the Eilen Team is now preparing for the All-American race in Nashville, Tennessee on November 1st.

"It has been a real tough couple of weeks" stated Eilen "With things falling out at Elko Speedway and now a disappointing finish to the ASA Midwest Tour season; we are all looking for a change."

The Eilen Motorsports Team had a tough weekend in LaCrosse, Wisconsin for the final ASA Midwest Tour race. Practices went well both Friday and Saturday, but Eilen was unable to qualify fast enough to make the race on Sunday.  He was left to run a qualifying heat race in hopes of a first or second place finish to put him in the feature event.

As race day came, Mother Nature decided to shower the LaCrosse area with rain causing a rain delay for the final Oktoberfest race events.  The rain delay gave the Eilen Team more time to ponder their choices for the Oktoberfest 100 feature event: risk racing the qualifying heats and using the tires or take a point provisional both of which will put him toward the end of the 30 car feature.

With the opportunity to save the tires in mind, the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team decided to save the car and tires and take the point provisional.  As the race got underway Eilen found himself fighting with his car.

"I wasn't able to get bite out of the corner" stated a frustrated driver, "it took awhile to figure the car out, but by the time I did we were already pretty far behind the leader."

Jonathan was able to drive his way from the 26th position to a 19th place finish.  "Although we struggled at the end of the season we are looking forward to the races this winter and the start of the 2009 ASA Midwest Tour Season" said Jonathan after the race was over. "Hopefully our luck will turn around for the Nashville race and we will be able to finish the year on a good note."

Eilen and his team will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to race the All-American North vs. South race on November 1st, 2008.

EILEN ENDS HIS LOCAL SHORT TRACK SEASON EARLY

HAMPTON, Minnesota (September 19, 2008) –It is with great disappointment that Jonathan Eilen and Eilen and Sons Motorsports announces the premature end to their 2008 local race track series season.

Following the feature event at Elko Speedway on Saturday, September 13, 2008 it was deemed by Elko’s tech officials and management that the intake and motor combination on Eilen’s # 77 Monte Carlo was illegal thus ending Eilen’s night with a disqualification.

It is the firm position of Jonathan Eilen and Eilen and Sons Motorsports that their car was legal and the decision to disqualify Eilen was based on personal agenda rather than inspection results and series rules.

Prior to the start of the ASA Midwest Tour Series and Elko Speedway Series the intake and motor combination in question had been inspected and approved by ASA, CRA, and Sunbelt Racing Series.  All engine rules are applied the same in every series, which should include the series run at Elko Speedway.  Eilen has since sent the intake out to the part manufacturer/engine combination engineer for further inspection.  “I take these accusations very seriously.  I stand behind my car and am confident that the part will come back clean.  If there had been a legitimate concern with the intake, the track officials would not have allowed me to keep the part” stated Eilen.

Due to the decision made by Elko Speedway, Eilen and Sons Motorsports has decided to end their local season early and concentrate their efforts on the All American Race in Nashville, Tennessee and the ASA Midwest Tour Series; a series where rules are applied equally to all drivers.

Jonathan Eilen and Eilen and Sons Motorsports would like to thank families, friends, sponsors, and fans for their continuing support as they finish the 2008 season and look forward to a successful 2009 season in the ASA Midwest Series.

RAIN DELAYS MAKE FOR A LATE NIGHT AT ELKO SPEEDWAY

Elko, MN (September 13, 2008)  With steady rain falls throughout the day the races looked as though they were going to be cancelled for the evening.  But with a break from mother nature around 8 pm the staff at Elko Speedway ruled that instead of double features for the evening the drivers would be racing one heat race and one feature.

Eilen was able to turn his luck around from last weekend to pick up a much needed win in the heat race.  He was placed on the third row for the feature which would turn out to be an advantage for him.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team was able to push through the cold rainy weather to finish in the fourth position.

Only one race remains for the Race for the Championship at Elko Speedway which will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 7pm.

EILEN FINDS HIMSELF SITTING IN SIXTH PLACE GOING INTO THE FINAL RACE

Marshfield, WI (September 7, 2008)  Clouds filled the sky as qualifying got underway at Marshfield Speedway Sunday afternoon.  Eilen qualified in the fifteenth position after trying to free up the car a little too much after practice.  The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team thought that the car would be good in the long run, so no changes were made before the heat race.

An hour long rain delay washed off a lot of the rubber on the track giving the drivers another challenge for the heat races.  Eilen's car did not respond to the longer distance and he ended up finishing seventh in the heat race.

"We were super loose out there," stated a frustrated driver "we definately need to make a few changes before the feature."

The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team had plenty of time to make changes as the Kim Parsons Memorial 100 would be delayed again due to rain.

Jonathan started the feature in the fifteenth position and found himself falling back as the race started.  As the tires heated up the car reacted positively and Eilen was able to move his way up through the pack.  The Eilen & Sons Trucking sponsored car was able to make its way up to eigth place and ready to challenge points leader Dan Fredrickson for the seventh position before a caution would come out at lap 20.  It was at the restart that Eilen felt a tire going down and was then forced to do all he could to hold on to the car.

Although Eilen ran into some rough luck at the end of the race, he was able to hold on to the car for a 12th place finish.  "We were definately hoping for a better run here with the series coming to an end," said Eilen "But we can't complain too much being able to finsih with a tire going down."

The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team will race double features the next two weekends at Elko Speedway before going to LaCrosse Speedway for the final ASAMT race.

THREE WEEKENDS COMPLETE; TWO REMAIN FOR THE CHASE

Elko, MN (September 5, 2008)  It was an average night for the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team Friday night at Elko Speedway.  The evening started out with Eilen qualifying sixth putting him in the third row for both the heat and feature races.  As the heat race got under way it was evident that Eilen's car was not handling the way he had hoped.

"Hopefully we are able to get the car running better for the feature" stated Eilen as he climbed from his car.

The feature started out well for the Eilen Team as they were able to maintain fourth place for the majority of the race.  A caution came out on lap 20 bunching the cars up for the restart.  Eilen found himself racing side by side with the #52 car for the remainder of the race.  It was a close finish with the #52 car edging past Eilen for a fourth place finish.

EILEN TEAM REMAINS POSITIVE AFTER A CHALLENGING WEEKEND

Norway, MI (August 31, 2008)  The Eilen and Sons Motorsports team drove all night to arrive at the Norway Speedway early Sunday morning in hopes of a good day of racing.  "We were lucky to maintain our fifth place ASAMT point standing after our rough weekend last weekend in Milwaukee and we are hoping that to day goes well as the end of the season approaches" stated Eilen before going out for practice.

As practice sessions wrapped up and the autograph session was over it was time to qualify for the Labor Day 100 ASA Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event.  Eilen was able to qualify second with a fast time of 14.329.  Eilen, along with 24 other drivers were able to break the old ASAMT track record which was set last year with a time of 14.703.

Eilen started last in the heat race and was able to work his way up to finish in the fifth position.  "This track is more difficult to pass on" said Eilen after the heat race "We are really going to have to work hard to move up in the feature race."  With another invert of thirteen Eilen found himself starting in the twelfth position in the feature for the second night in a row.

The feature race was off to a clean start until a car got turned around in turn one causing a wreck involving up to eleven cars.  Eilen was able to get away from the wreck with only a few cosmetic damages to the car and move up to the ninth position.  Unfortunately Eilen would be stuck in the ninth position for the remainder of the race as he, along with many other drivers, were unable to pass.

"We are just happy we didn't wreck more than we did on the car" stated Eilen after the race "Some of the teams were not as lucky as us and ended up with a lot of damage."

The Eilen and Sons Motorsports team is looking forward to finishing the last of the four events in the four week stretch when the ASAMT makes its debut at Marshfield Speedway on Sunday, September 7th.

 DOUBLE FEATURES AT ELKO SPEEDWAY

Elko, MN (August 30, 2008)   After a rough practice session the Eilen and Sons Motorsports team was hoping for the best as the qualifying laps for the Super Late Model class began. "We ended up having to switch the transmission after practice, so we have not had a chance to take the car on the track since practice" stated Eilen "hopefully everything goes well and we are able to have a good qualifying run."

Eilen qualified second with a time of 13.614 placing him in the twelfth position after the invert for the first feature race. This race didn't go as well as Eilen had hoped. "The car was tight making it hard to control." stated Eilen as he and his crew worked to get the car ready for the second 40 lap feature.

The 77 Eilen and Sons Trucking & Landscape Supply car would start on the pole for the second feature.  Eilen was able to maintain the second position behind Donny Reuvers, where the two of them would run away from the pack for the first twenty laps before a caution flag flew at lap 20.  The re-start brought all of the cars together, giving Jake Ryan a chance at challenging Jonathan for the second position.  After about ten laps of Ryan trying to get underneath Eilen it was a bump from behind that helped Ryan get around the 77 car of Eilen.  Jake Goede was close behind Ryan and followed him to pass Eilen for the third position.  Eilen finished in the fourth position, but was unhappy with the way some of the drivers raced.

The Eilen team quickly loaded everything up and drove six and a half hours to Norway, MI for Sunday's ASAMT race.

WHEN THE BAD TURNS GOOD

Milwaukee, WI (August 24, 2008)   The day was thought to be going well as everyone made it to Milwaukee on time and the car was finished and ready for practice.  But it didn’t take long for the Eilen Motorsports team to have their day turned up side down.  Jonathan was one of the first drivers out to practice, but after driving the first half of a lap he soon realized something was not right after loosing oil pressure.  Eilen pulled the car in for his crew to look at and to their disbelief they found a broken oil pump.  It was not possible for the crew to fix the pump nor was it possible for them to take it off the back up car due to the difference in motors.  This left the Eilen Motorsports team with one choice: use the back up car.  The crew quickly unloaded the back up car (which is mostly used for shorter tracks) and began working furiously to get it ready for the big Milwaukee Mile.

Two hours later the Eilen Motorsports team had the car ready to race but there were many questions on their minds.  Is this car set up for this track?  How is it going to handle in a 100 lap race?  With no practice, the crew and Eilen were stuck with a lot of guessing.  They were very grateful for the help that came from various crews and are pleased with everyone’s generosity.   “Without the help we got we wouldn’t have been able set this car up in time for qualifying” stated crew chief Jason Cihawk.

Eilen qualified in the 29th position putting him on the fifteenth row, inside for the feature race. “It isn’t exactly where we wanted to be,” stated Eilen “especially since we knew how fast the other car was, but we will do with what we have and hope for the best in the feature.”

As the feature began, Eilen’s fans watched him move his way up through the pack of cars.  “This back up car might surprise all of us!” stated a friend of Eilen.  At the fifty lap break Eilen found himself sitting in the 18th position.  The crew changed a few things during the ten minute break and with some water for the driver they were all ready to go out for the next fifty laps.

The Eilen Motorsports team was blessed with a few cautions that tightened up the field of cars and the fans were again astonished with the way Eilen was driving.  Jonathan proved what a talented driver he is by driving his way to finish in the 10th position.  “Wow! To come from 29th and race to finish where we did is awesome” stated a happy driver “I couldn’t have done any of this without the help of my crew.  We all worked hard to get this car ready for this afternoon’s race and it definitely showed how dedicated we all are around here.  I am very grateful to have them all on my team.”

Eilen and his crew will spend the next week getting both cars ready for another big weekend of racing.  On Saturday, August 30th the Eilen Motorsports team will race double features at Elko Speedway and then leave immediately following the races to Norway, Michigan for Sunday’s ASAMT race.  Jonathan is also looking forward to celebrating his father’s birthday on Sunday at the race along with his own birthday on Monday, September 1st.

A MINNESOTA RACE WEEKEND!

Shakopee, MN (Sunday, August 17, 2008)  With temperatures in the mid 80’s, the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team, along with many other teams, were worried about their driver surviving the heat. It was a rough start practicing, qualifying, and the feature but they made it through alright.  Lots of water was passed around as the drivers lined up. Eilen was off to a good start for the day qualifying in the “lucky 7” position.  After the invert, Jonathan started on the inside of the third row for the feature race.

As the race got underway it was obvious that the inside grove was the favorite.  Eilen quickly proceeded to third place where he would find himself sitting in for the first seventy-five laps before being able to get around Rich Loch.  As both Eilen and Steve Carlson passed Loch, Jonathan found himself trying to play “catch-up” to Donny Reuvers while trying to hold off Carlson.

With a caution at lap 11 Eilen had the chance to catch Reuvers, but Reuvers’ car was too strong for Eilen to challenge. “I thought I might have a run for him, but he has a lot of laps on this track, and he probably knows this track like the back of his hand,” Eilen stated. “We have only run like three nights out here, all in all it’s a good night for us.”

Jonathan finished second and was pleased with his run. “It was a real good run for us to finish second and hold off Steve (Carlson),” Eilen stated after the race. “Donny’s car is just a little bit better than ours and just glad to bring it home in one piece.”

The Eilen & Sons Motorsports team will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin next weekend to race the ASAMT All Star 100 featuring Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth.

Elko, MN ( Saturday, August 16, 2008) Tonight was the first Race for the Championship which put the top twelve drivers thus far this season, back to zero points.  Jonathan started the night off qualifying in the fifth position putting him in the third row for the feature race.

Eilen started sixth in the heat race and was able to drive his way to a third place finish. “We are hoping we can finish in the top three cars with our old tires, but it will be a challenge since most of the other drivers have newer tires” stated Eilen after the heat race.

As the feature started Jonathan was able to hold on to fifth place for the first few laps before the old tires began taking a toll on the car’s handling.  Eilen was able to finish a respectable ninth although he hoped for better. “I am just glad we are able to leave here with a top ten finish and the car in one piece” said the relieved driver “I am really looking forward to staying close to home for tomorrow’s ASAMT race at Raceway Park.”

Kaukauna, Wisconsin   August 5, 2008

Eilen was off to a great start Tuesday evening! He qualified tenth putting him on the pole for the feature race after the invert. “I have a good feeling about tonight” stated Eilen during the autograph session “the last time I started on the pole (in Jefferson) we lead all 100 laps and took home our first ASAMT win this year.”

As the race started and Jonathan fell to second place, but it was only a few short laps before he would take the lead.  Eilen lead the rest of the 75 laps up to the scheduled ten minute break.  As the second half of the feature started (another 75 laps) Eilen was off to a good start, leading the first eight laps before being passed by Steve Carlson.

Shortly after being passed, Eilen’s throttle spring broke leaving him with the choice to stay out and try to hold on or to pull off and call it a night.  Eilen without a doubt chose to continue the race and try to finish within the top ten cars without wrecking anything.

Jonathan was able to hold on and finish a reasonable 9th place position.  “It stinks that we had to break the throttle spring, I know my car would have been a top three car with how great it was running” said Eilen after the race.

Elko Speedway -August 2nd

It was another weekend close to home for the Eilen team as Jonathan, once again, proved that he has what it takes to be a talented driver.

After qualifying second to Nick Murgic by two hundredths of a second, Jonathan was set to start on the front row for the heat race.  He raced his way to a first place finishing a few car lengths between him and the second place driver.

"The car is running really well tonight" stated Eilen as he climbed from his car "I am excited to see how well it does in the feature."

The Eilen Motorsports Team decided to take "The Challenge" and start from the back row in the feature in hopes of gaining enough points to make The Race for the Chase. For each car Eilen would pass he would receive five points.  Jonathan needed twenty extra points plus finish ahead of the driver who was currently sitting ahead of him in the point standings, to make The Chase for the Championship.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to pass everyone, but it was the chance I needed to take to gain the points needed for the Chase” exclaimed a happy driver after driving from seventeenth position to finish a respectable fifth place.  “Man! The car was awesome!” he stated with a big smile.

The Eilen team will travel to Kaukauna, Wisconsin for the ASA Midwest Tour race on Tuesday, August 5th where guest star Kyle Busch will also be racing.

MAGNIFICENT WEEKEND FOR THE EILEN TEAM!

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The ASA Midwest Tour hosted their “Western Swing” this weekend.  This included races at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday night and Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on Sunday night.

The 36th Annual Keith Fleck Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway was a re-scheduled race that was supposed to be held on the 13th of June.  However, the event was postponed due to the recent flooding in the area.  The Eilen team did really well in all of the practices, but the car did not handle the same in qualifying as it did in practice due to a small amount of moisture on the track and a slight temperature change.  Only the top sixteen drivers are guaranteed a position in the feature, and Jonathan qualified 21st.  In order to advance to the feature, Jonathan needed to place first or second in a qualifying heat.

“I wasn’t too nervous about the heat race since I have raced well here in past years” stated Eilen after placing second in the heat race placing him into Friday night’s feature race.

Jonathan started in the eleventh row for the feature and raced his way up to finish in eighth place.

“Man the car was fast!” said Eilen after the feature race. “I wish I would have qualified a little better, but I can’t complain about the car; it was awesome!”

After the race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway the Eilen team packed up and headed to Newton, Iowa for Saturday’s practices.

Newton, Iowa - The team encountered slight problems with the Eilen race hauler, and they were a little nervous for practice. “We have had pretty good luck the last few weeks, I just hope this doesn’t mean our luck is turning around” stated Eilen as he worked on unloading the race car.

As practice began, the Eilen team was consistently within the top five fastest cars. “We made a few slight adjustments throughout the practices, but the car has been awesome all day.  I am anxious to see how tomorrow goes.”

Jonathan Eilen was the second fastest driver at the end of Saturday’s practices, leaving the entire team excited for Sunday’s race.

After a good night’s sleep, the Eilen team was ready for the Rasmussen Group Twin 75’s at Iowa Speedway..

Morning practices went well for the Eilen team where Jonathan continued to stay within the top five fastest drivers. Without making many changes, the Eilen team was able to qualify fifth fastest with a time of 23.597, just behind Sprint Cup driver Matt Kenseth.

“Qualifying well is defiantly a plus” stated Jonathan, “Now we need to get ready for the big race later on today.”

With temperatures reaching the 90 degree mark, all of the race teams were worried about their driver’s health.  The Eilen team prepared for the heat with extra ice water on hand for the ten minute break between the two 75 lap races.

After the inversion Eilen found himself sitting on the fourth row for the feature race.  As the race progressed, Eilen was consistently within the top ten drivers.  At the ten minute break Jonathan was sitting in second place and itching to get around the Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch, who continually remained in first place.

“I know he is going to be hard to get around, but I really think our car is good enough to make it happen” stated Eilen in an interview during the break.

Sure enough, he was right.  Eilen was able to inherit the lead for one lap before being passed by race winner Tim Schendel.  As the race continued, Jonathan was able to stay in second place holding off Matt Kenseth and Donny Reuvers.

“The car was really tight in the beginning and when we came in for a caution, we made a couple of adjustments and the car was really good after that,” Eilen remarked after the race. “Tim was just a little bit better but I had a lot of fun, this is a great place to race at and I look forward to coming back here next year.”

Eilen is looking forward to staying close to home racing at Elko Speedway after a wonderful weekend in Iowa.

A SPECTACULAR NIGHT FOR THE EILEN TEAM!

Elko, MN (Saturday, July 12, 2008) “The car was awesome in practice; I just knew it was going to be a good night” expressed the happy driver.

Eilen qualified first with a time of 13.66, just short of the track record.

Jonathan drove away in the heat race taking first place putting him in the front row for the feature.

“Man was the car fast today!”  Eilen exclaimed as he got out of the car after placing second in the feature race.  Jonathan led the first thirty laps of the race until a car spun out bringing out a caution.  After the re-start Jake Ryan got under Jonathan and took over first position.  Another caution came out when a few cars got tangled, giving Eilen another chance to regain his first place position.

"If I would have had a few more laps I may have caught him” stated Eilen. “The second grove is where everyone was running well and we both knew that, I just wish the cautions wouldn’t have come out.  Either way I am happy with the way we finished tonight!”"

EILEN POSTS A TOP FIVE FINISH AT I-94 RACEWAY, SAUK CENTRE, MN

Sauk Centre, Minn. (Saturday, July 5, 2008) "I am happy with where we finished (5th)" stated Eilen in post race celebration. "This is the best finish we have ever had at this track (I-94 Raceway)."

Eilen came into the event with confidence that he had a good race car. He proved this to be a fact when he qualified 4th with a time of 16.88, a mere 0.12 seconds behind the fast qualifier. With 14 as the inversion for the feature, Eilen started 6th row inside (11th) and never looked back. Picking off racecars one at a time in the 100 lap feature, Eilen moved forward through the tight competition to post a 5th place finish in the feature.

Next up for the Eilen team will be what is being dubbed "The Western Swing" which will consist of the rescheduled Keith Fleck Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Friday July 18th and then on to the Iowa 150 on Sunday, July 20th at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

EILEN TEAM REMAINS POSITIVE AFTER ALL-STAR CHALLENGE RACE

Madison, Wis. (Tuesday, June 24th, 2008) Luck was not on Jonathan Eilen's side for the All Star Challenge race in Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday, June 24th.

"The car was completely opposite from Sunday's race." Stated Jonathan after finishing the race which included NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth, and Kyle Busch.  "Practice went really well and we qualified sixteenth putting us in the feature, but in the feature the car started out really loose and towards the end became too tight."

Overall Eilen finished eighteenth only two cars behind Tony Stewart who finished sixteenth.

"Even though we didn't finish where we would have liked to it was still a blast to race with these three drivers (Kenseth, Stewart, and Busch). Hopefully our luck turns around for the fourth of July weekend" stated Eilen.

UPDATE FROM GRUNDY COUNTY SPEEDWAY IN MORRIS, ILLINOIS

Morris, Ill. (Monday, June 23, 2008) Bad luck struck the Eilen & Sons Motorsports team again Sunday in Morris, Illinois

“The car was really good in practice, leading us to qualify tenth which put us directly into the feature” stated Eilen.  “The car started out really tight in the feature and as the race went on loosened up too much.”

Eilen held on without going a lap down to finish seventeenth in the feature.

“We have a lot of work to do now before Tuesday’s race in Madison” said Eilen in hopes to turn his luck around.

Eilen and his crew are on their way to Madison right now and are excited for the races Tuesday at Madison International Speedway where Eilen will compete in the All Star Challenge Race with Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, and Tony Stewart.

EILEN TEAM RESTED AND READY FOR ANY CHALLENGE

Hampton, MN (Saturday, June 26, 2008) With a few weeks off from the ASA Midwest Tour, Jonathan Eilen and his team have kept busy racing at Elko Speedway’s weekly races.  On June 9th Eilen qualified third putting him on the front row for the heat race.  He placed second in the heat race and went on to place fifth in the feature.  On June 14th Eilen qualified tenth putting him in the middle of the pack for the heat race.  He drove his way to a third place finish before going into the feature race where he placed tenth.

“The car was fast” Eilen stated, “but due to the ‘one tire a night’ rule Elko has set, we ran on tires from the beginning of the year leaving us with a slight disadvantage to the other drivers.”

Eilen and his crew will travel to Illinois and Wisconsin during the week of June 22nd – 28th where he will race at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois on Sunday and then travel to Madison, Wisconsin to race on Tuesday.

“We are all really fired up for this up coming week with Grundy on Sunday and racing in the All Star Challenge race with Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, and Tony Stewart in Madison on Tuesday,” stated Eilen as he finished putting the final touches on the car.

EILEN FIGHTS BAD LUCK TO FINISH DELLS 100

Wisconsin Dells, WI (Sunday, June 1, 2008) – It has been a tough start to the 2008 season for Jonathan Eilen and it appeared that streak would continue. Looking strong in both practice sessions, brought confidence to the 77 team.

Luck went in a different direction from qualifying through the end of the race. "The car was really good in practice but it got tight for qualifying. I knew we still had a good car for the race", stated Eilen. "We started the race 22nd and I brought the car up to 14th when the 75 car spun, we avoided the wreck, but the 99 came in hot under us and broke a break line."

This did not discourage the 77 team as they went to work in the pits to bring the car back out into the racing action. Re-entering the race 14 laps down, the 77 was strong enough to catch the leaders and just about gain back one of the lost laps. The 77 team, unfortunately, ran out of laps in the race in their quest to finish higher than 25th place.

The team is taking it in stride and will try to shake it off on Saturday, June 7th as they compete in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action at Elko Speedway.

EILEN GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE TO GRAB HIS SECOND ASAMT WIN AT JEFFERSON

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, May 17, 2008) – It has been a tough start to the 2008 season for Jonathan Eilen and it appeared that streak would continue.

But, luck would turn around for him as he would capture the Kwik Trip Stores 100 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event at Jefferson Speedway in Cambridge, WI.

“Boy we really needed this,” a happy Eilen stated in victory lane. “We had our problems all day with the motor. We actually had the back up car out ready to go and we thought for sure we would have to go to that one, but this car was like a rocket on rails.”

Eilen started on the outside of the front row and got the lead from polesitter Adam Hensel.

ASAMT officials hurried to get the start of this race going as rain was approaching the track. The caution flew on lap 27 when precipitation started to fall on the track causing a one hour and 28 minute delay.

After the Jefferson Speedway Hobby Stocks and Bandits assisted with the drying of the track, the field of 26 cars took the green flag and was able to complete the event before the next band of showers hit the track.

Eilen would work his way through lap traffic while Jamie Iverson worked on holding off Andrew Morrissey for the second position. “I didn’t think it was going to be easy, I thought it would be a little risky out there, but it worked out,” Eilen stated.                                                                                                 read more
